For Starchaser | Rain lashed down upon the earth with a fury, the torrential flooding of the nearby woodland forcing the mythical to seek the open roads laid out by humans, as the river that lingered through the trees grew dangerously high at its banks. If it were to burst, the unicorn had not the strength of magic to contain it; it was weeks since the last encounter he had with another creature of any kind, and its effects were notable, the horn which spiralled from the centre of his sable forehead little more than a decoration in its de-energised condition. The pathway was trodden with countless footprints, hinting that there was a settlement nearby, and it was in such a direction that the unicorn now travelled, his stride controlled, fluid, as this land had a reputation for hunters who would not wish to bargain with any but their own. Tales spoke of such who would prey amongst themselves, trading with their prettiest specimens for gold, territory and sometimes for reasons of peace. Or so was rumoured. If he were of the fate to encounter any of their like, only then would it be confirmed as more than gossiping. |
